Preheat broiler. Place figs, sugar and 1/2 cup water in small saucepan. Simmer, covered, 10 minutes or until figs are very tender and liquid is almost absorbed. Stir in lemon juice. Mash fig mixture with a fork or place in blender and process to a coarse jamlike purée.
Spread fig mixture on bread slices. Arrange Camembert slices diagonally over fig purée. Place on foil-covered rack. Broil 4 inches from heat 2 minutes or until cheese melts.
